On the right side of each page of this site is a list of External Dance Links. Currently there are 15 of these, and several more domain names have been registered. None of these sites existed prior to Easter, 2007. Nor had I published any articles on dance prior to this date. Since Easter however I have published several. A Google search I just completed with the three words “ian mckenzie dance” resulted in 35 of the first 40 results linking to one of my web sites or articles published on dance. I doubt that there would be many other searches with a person’s first and last name and the word “dance” in a Google search resulting in similar results.
Until the start of Aussie Dances, I had no commercial interest in dance whatsoever. Even now it is not my main business. It is more a hobby or interest, or perhaps a more correct term would be passion. My main business interests lie in the areas of professional development programs and the internet. I am a Director of Professional Performance Australia and its subsidiary International Education Symposiums. Also I have a web hosting and domain name registration business, ’Ian McKenzies Domains, which offers services at economical prices which are way below what others are charging. A Google search of the three words “ian mckenzie internet” will result in similar results to “ian mckenzie dance” search.
Why the web sites, articles and my interest in publishing information on dance?
Well, a free-hosted dance blog site, which was a sub-domain of a free-hosted dance web site started its life during Easter this year as a favour for a dance studio. Now, this was not requested by the studio in question, but I believed the tools which I developed and offered would have helped them in their internet exposure. Obviously if anything is offered to anyone, the intended recipient has the right to either accept or reject the offer. In this case, the offer was rejected.
None of us like to do any work which is wasted or not wanted. So, I thought to myself if this “firm” didn’t want FREE help, then perhaps others would. I had spent around eight hours putting the original template together, so I made a few phone calls, and was overwhelmed with the positive feedback and support with what I had offered, and the Dancing in Brisbane directory came into being. During the following two weeks all the links you see as “External Dance Links” to the right came into being.
There is no point in having any web sites if no one knows about them and visits them. Web sites need to be optimised for the search engine spiders to find them and rank them. Web sites that have been established for some time will get hits, but for newer sites strategies need to be put in place in order to get higher search engine rankings. This I have done with all the sites listed on the right side of the pages of this site and with other sites. With the continued analytics I complete on all these sites, they will continue to get better and better rankings, as will the Brisbane Dances site.
All these dance sites I have published as a free service for the dancers and dance studios, teachers and venues in Australia. The only commercial benefit for me is the potential purchases of my products and services from people clicking on my advertisement links on the pages of the sites. I may add however, this no where compensates for the considerable time I spend keeping the directories up to date.
Well, what is my purpose in publishing the above blurb on the page of our Aussie Dances site?
Apart from giving some background regarding my dance site publishing, it is my hope that any readers considering registering a domain name for a web site, or indeed having a web site published will have a chat with me about it first. I don’t believe that there is any other firm which will give you better value for the $’s you spend. Just go to the Black and Mack page of this site for my contact details.
