Crazy Feet Dance Studio
by Melanie Barnes
Dancing has been part of Glen and my life since we were extremely young. We actually met at the age of twelve, while learning ballroom dancing in our home-town of Wagga Wagga. I became interested in Rock n Roll dancing at about that same time, when I saw some Rock n Roll competitors achieving aerials that took my breath away. So I convinced Mum to take me to lessons and I totally fell in love with the sport.
Six months later, I started competing in Rock n Roll competitions and continued actively competing for another ten years. During that time I held State and National Titles for the following dance styles:
- A & B Grade Rock n Roll
- Open Rock n Roll
- Open Freestyle
- Open International
- Open Triples Rock n Roll (one guy dances with two ladies).
- My major achievements were the NSW State Title and being the Victorian State Open Freestyle champion three years running.
Throughout this time, I helped by dance teacher Allan Limbrick to coach his weekly dance classes and went on to instruct adult and children’s social dance classes for the Wagga Wagga Rock n Roll Club. Glen also learnt Rock n Roll during his teens.
Glen and I moved to Brisbane and started our own dance studio in 2001, teaching both 8 step Swing Jive and 4 step Rock n Roll. We also have conducted dance classes for beginners with the Moreton Institute of TAFE. Glen and I continued teaching classes in London for 3 years and have returned to Brisbane to make a home. We now have dance classes two nights a week at Balmoral Bowls Club, Morningside. Hope to see you there!
